Here we are Croatia. After last night, which I slept for 3 hours and I am generous we had to get up early in the morning to catch our train. After the big Goodbye Flat party which was huge… We went clubbing one last time in Prague before leaving. My God it was hard to wakeup. Fortunately we finished packing before the party. So we only had to wakeup, eat and then go to the train station. It wasn’t that bad that we didn’t slept, because we had 22 hours of train to kill… Yes we slept, most of the way!! The train was full.. Full of Czech people, Croatian and others…. Unfortunately, my roommate wasn’t in the same cabin as us, he had to buy a couchette because there was no more space… So when we weren’t sleeping we were walking for one place to the other…. Now did I ever talk about this marvellous invention the train!!! What a beautiful, relaxing, breathtaking way to travel. You get to see a lot of the landscape and you get to meet people sometimes…. When we arrive in Croatia, after the passport check, luckily we didn’t had any problem, it was during the night, they changed for a diesel locomotive. During the trip, we brought food and of course sekt (like champagne but not from France) to celebrate the beginning of our trip. For me it was the beginning of a almost three months trip with Max… Where I’ll go around southeast Europe.
So after 22 hours of train we finally arrived at our first town Split. What a surprise when we put feet to ground we were almost harassed by people. They were selling us their room/flat that they had to rent. So we started to bargain: yours is 5 km from the centre and it is 12 euro each… But the other one is 3 km from the centre and is 9 euro…. Well you see…. So we got a house at the mother’s house of a guy, all the seven of us stayed there. The mother was only speaking Serbo-Croatian or Italian. They have a lot of Italian there. I mean you walk in the streets and you see everywhere those ugly Italian glasses and Dolce & Gabana, eurk ugly.. Sorry for my Italians friends!!!!
Now the town of Split, hum it is beautiful, with its Roman castle from the roman emperor Diocletian and its beautiful view on the sea. Croatia is a country without clouds and big big sun, really hot. Their beaches are of pebble. We also went on a mount just beside the city and there we had an amazing view on the city and the sea. It is quite interesting because the castle is part of the town, or the town part of the castle, now houses are in it’s wall. The city was constructed in the castle, so you could almost walk in the old town and don’t see the castle, even sometime you don’t know that you are in the castle unless you really look around you. Where we stay, they were really helpful and kind, answering our questions when they understood and they always tried to communicate whit us. Very very nice people.
Ok it is enough on Split… next stop Hvar city. On the island Hvar close to Split.
