05-08-02 Castel Gandolfo (Italia)

Finally, unfortunately, my last place where I’ll go Castel Gandolfo, near Rome to see two really good friends of mine, Katka and Marco. We took a train from Naples to Rome and a second one to Castel Gandolfo. It is the place where the pope has a summerhouse and an observatory. We arrived there and we were staying where Marco and Katka were working, in a villa teaching English to the employee of a big oil company. It is like a vacation for them and they bring their children and they too start to learn English. I was so happy to see them both I really missed them and still now. While I was in Prague they were really good friend and I passed most of my time with them. So I was happy to relax a bit, no more visiting just to see them a little bit and talk. We talked about what happened since the last time that we saw each other. After two days, it was time to leave; I was supposed to take the plane. I left them and so I went to Cupertino airport were we waited something like hours for the plane because part of the tarmac collapsed under a plane before, they had to repaired it so our plane was diverted to the other airport of Rome, but finally we managed to take our plane with Czech airline and to come back to my so cherish Prague. Oh!!!! Prague I mist you so much.

05-08-01 Herculano (Italia)

Like I was saying in my post about Naples, we visited Herculaneum and we could have visited Pompeii too with the same ticket, which we bought without student discount, because we weren’t student of the European union. It is really well done and it is amazing that we can still see the tiled floors or the colours on the walls. In this village there was no death people because they were warn before unlike Pompeii. We could have stayed there for hours again and still be amazed. It was really feeling like to be a little bit in the roman empire again, to be able to walk on those floors and see those colours walls, objects, artefacts houses still standing. Part of it is still under restoration and there is still research done there but the experience was really interesting.

05-07-31 Napoli (Italia)

We took the train, from Venice for Naples. It was an over night train, so we arrived in the morning. Once there we contacted our friend, well in fact she was in the same train as us. So she contacted the guy from who she had a nice apartment and he manage to have us a big flat for Max and me for 20 euro each per night. It was really a big flat! with a view on the sea (ok it was not just beside it but since it was high we could see it) and on the Vesuvius. The first day we walked around the city, it is a big very nervous city, so we walked around our flat and around the main area. We saw nice churches and pizza stand/restaurants. It as an interesting architecture and nice small street, but I feel it dirty and very very nervous. It is only my impression kind of a feeling. In the city there is organized by panels some tours that we followed a little bit and in a way we made a tours guide. One evening we went with our friend and her friend to what is suppose to be the first pizza in Italy, it is always full and you have to wait! But it was worth it! It was such a delicious pizza. The next day we went to visit Herculaneum, it is a city that was also engulf by Vesuvius eruption but this one the villagers were able to flee. When you go there, you buy a ticket that can be used at both Herculaneum and Pompeii. Something frustrated me when we bought the ticket, it is that we could have student discount because we weren’t student of the European Union. Since when they have to make a difference, if any European goes outside the union, they’ll be able to have the discount. Things like that should be told aloud and shout, it is a form of discrimination based on the place where we are from. Bastard. Ok, now that it is said… Herculaneum was very beautiful and even if we cold have been to Pompeii it was quite enough. We basically only visit the city for one day, so we didn’t visited it that much but we had a nice impression of it, so different than Venice.

05-07-28 Venezia (Italia)

In Venetia, we were staying at my Italian friend place in Conegliano, it is like 10 min train from the city. When we arrived she took us around her place a little bit. It is only the next day that we went in Venetia. What a mighty city. So beautiful, it is really worthless to try to describe it y word. The pictures, the real city more, are incredible. Like the heat I have to say, like 200% humidity with 40°C in the shadow. We walked the city a lot, we went to the Peggy Guggenheim museum and in Saint-Marc church. Also Elena, my Italian friend and her Sicilian friend made for us a very delicious Sicilian diner. Of course it was pasta hum so good. On Saint-Marc, during the day there is thousands of pigeons but at night no more!!! I really like the city at night with all the building lighted it is really another perspectives. One of the best moments in Venetia was that evening where we bought some food at the grocery and a bottle of wine and eat beside the canals and a statue. This was amazing, it was the sunset and the sky had a magnificent colour. During the diner that they had done for us, we met a friend of Elena and we learn she was going to Napoli, so we decided to go there next since we still had free time to spent before going to see my great friend Marco in Castel Gandolfo. Venetia is beautiful and it is very pleasing to walk it but I think that to exploit the full romantic potential of the city you need to be with a lover. Don’t get me wrong this is more than a magnificent city but it would be even better with a lover, what more can you ask? You know I didn’t talk half of all the beautiful thing that we saw there, the churches the houses all the colours. The little stands…. But then we had to move on, and we went to Napoli whitout knowing were we would sleep… her friend found an apartment for her and her friend we will try with the same guy if he can give us something.

05-07-28 Postojna karst (Slovenja)

Before we went to Italy, we went to see some big huge caves. They are incredibly humongous, we were near a hundred people in there and there was guide in something like 7 languages. In those caves lives under captivity the human lizard as they like to call it, because it look like a lizard but his feet look a little bit like the human feet. The caves were really beautiful I was really amazed, because it was big, but still you know it is a cave and it look like a cave. Then we left Maja for Italy with sadness in me, she was so nice, lets hope I’ll see her again.

05-07-27 Bled and Bohing (Slovenja)

The night before going to Bled and Bohing we were party in the parking lot of the residence and slept 3 hours in a bed of somebody that I don’t know. We then took the road to Bled with a friend of me and Max that was in Prague for the winter semester, a Slovenian too of course. It is a small town, with a lake an small fortress and a mountain to hike. Of course when I say mountain it is the tail end of the Alps. So we decided to take the funicular and to then walk our way down. At the top we had typical Slovenian food again such a delice and what about the view up there… Look at the picture and you’ll see. It is unbelievable. The walk down was so long and on rocks and we were all the time sliding, so it wasn’t that fun but it was refreshing after a big party and 3 hours sleep. My leg was hurting after that. We then went to the fortress. I was so sleepy that I could have fallen a sleep on the fortress walls. We then went to Bohing a very small town to see a friend of Primos the Slovenian from the winter semester and to eat some very special cake from that place. We didn’t really stayed there long and then we went back to Ljubljana were we had a nice diner in a restaurant because it was our last day in Slovenja. Next here we come Venetia but before we just go to see one last thing in Slovenia, the Postojna karst!!

05-07-26 Ljubljana (Slovenja)

We are now in Ljubljana, we left before my friend because she was working at the bar. We went to visit the city by our own. This is one of my favourite cities. It is really beautiful, it has a nice antique atmosphere and it is where the youth are. We ere staying at my friend apartment with them. The first day that we arrived we visited the city a bit, we walked, like we always do! It was shinny and very hot day. We went to the castle and we visited it, from there we had quite a nice view. It was worth the detour that we took to go see it. There was a very nice church all painted with a lot of different emblems, and a very special sculpture like an egg but open and with writing inside. I could have stayed there hour to watch it. We then went in a party that was in the parking lot of the residence of the university. A lot of the friend of mine where there, with wine, guitar. I had a great time with them, talking and enjoying it until the first light of the morning. I even slept at the residence in a bed of somebody that wasn’t there. Me and my friend Maja we slept 3 hours that day and then we went to Bled and Bohing. This night is a night that I will remember for a very long time. If you want to know more about this marvellous city, just look at the picture and you’ll know everything that you need to know to want to go there.
